SIC & NAICS Codes

Since many databases and reference sources are organized by SIC and NAICS codes, it's a good idea to note them down. The codes classify companies and industries by their primary line of business.

Standard Industrial Classification (SIC)

SIC codes for the automotive industry include:
  • SIC 3711 Motor Vehicles and Passenger Car Bodies
  • SIC 3714 Motor Vehicle Parts and Accessories

North American Industry Classification System (NAICS)
The NAICS system is replacing the SIC system, but many databases and reference sources still use SIC codes. NAICS codes for the automotive industry include the following:

  • NAICS 336111 Automobile Manufacturing
  • NAICS 336312 Gasoline Engine & Engine Parts Manufacturing
  • NAICS 336399 Other Motor Vehicle Parts Manufacturing
